Robotics and autonomous systems are no longer a future technology. They are a present one, scaling rapidly, entering consumer contexts for the first time, and raising a set of design and brand questions that most organisations have not yet answered: When a robot wears your brand, what does your brand promise about how it behaves? And how do you design robotic experiences that people trust, accept, and want to interact with?
The problem is not what robots can do. It is what people will allow them to do.

The Scale of the Transition
The robotics industry is experiencing one of the most significant technology transitions of the decade. The global robotics technology market, valued at $108 billion in 2025, is projected to reach $416 billion by 2035 (Precedence Research, 2025). Within that broader market, humanoid robots are expected to grow from $2.9 billion in 2025 to $15.3 billion by 2030, reflecting the shift from research prototypes to commercial deployment.
Robotics is already moving beyond industrial settings into healthcare, logistics, manufacturing and the home. By 2030, consumer robotics is expected to be a $20 billion global market, driven by humanoid assistants, delivery robots and automated home systems. This is the first time brands are not designing only for screens, but for behaviour in the physical world.
The Trust Problem in Robotics
The single biggest barrier to robotic adoption is not technical capability. It is trust. People are willing to accept robots in contexts where the task is clearly defined, the risk is low, and human oversight is visible. Warehouse automation, factory floor assistance, surgical precision, these are environments where robotics has already achieved widespread acceptance. But the moment a robot moves into less structured environments, consumer homes, public spaces, collaborative workplaces, the calculus shifts (Pew Research Center, 2017).
This is the trust gap. The distance between what a robot can do technically and what people are willing to let it do psychologically. The barrier is not capability. It is permission. And it is a gap that brands cannot close through better engineering alone. It requires a different kind of design thinking, one that starts with how people experience the robot, not with what the robot is capable of doing.
